If you're starting or scaling your MSP, then the wise words of Chris Timm must be heard. He recently wrote a book all about how to extract maximum profit from your clients using Datto Autotask PSA - an alternative to Connectwise.
Chris used to work for Autotask but is now independent - his views are unbiased.
I sat down with Chris to cover the basics of Autotask - included in the interview we discussed the main functionality, driving profit and why all MSPs need to take a look at their PSA and make sure it's set up for success.
There are two main points that I took away from the interview - when choosing a PSA to make sure it fits your needs - don't listen to peers or compare yourself to competitors. Think about your needs and put them first.
The second bit of advice was tracking all overheads within Autotask and why this is important.
Autotask allows you to tune and map out your business overheads.
Once complete, you'll be able to see hidden truths about your MSP - assumptions about who your most profitable customers are and the ones that you may think are costing you money will be laid bare.
